In total, around 80 gymnasts from 20 clubs of the country took park in the researches. Approximately the same numbers of teenagers were taken to the control group by the researchers. Every week a survey was held among the participants of the experiment with the purpose of trauma detection for the past seven days, and this lasted for 8 months!
When the scientists compared the results, they could not be named very surprised — artistic gymnastics have the reputation of a rather safe kind of sport. However, for the parents who care for safety of their children, these numbers will be useful: the coefficient of sustaining trauma among usual teenagers was by far higher than in the sports area! For a thousand hours of active rest there fell on the average 1.8 trauma while the gymnasts had 1 trauma in 1000 hours on the average.
Of course, in the same number of hours the gymnasts had almost 5 times more activity, so the number of injuries overstepped the analogous figure in the control group. But the conclusions you can make out of this — is that the gymnasts, being masters of their own bodies, traumatize more rarely. And taking into account how long the muscle memory keeps “remembrances”, you can speak boldly that even after finishing sports career, gymnasts will much easier avoid traumas.

Unfortunately, the scientists didn’t find out how much the level of trauma gaining can be influenced by the outward appearance of sportswomen, and particularly, how the way they feel can be affected by the leotards for rhythmic gymnastics, sport acrobatics and figure skating.

How to avoid traumas — lowering the risks to zero!
Parents should pay attention to the fact how often and what kind of trauma their child gets. The matter is that usual damages can turn into chronic ones. Lower limbs are the most liable for trauma — almost 40 % of all traumas fall on the ankle and on the foot. The shin and the knee joint, according to the researches, have around 20 % of traumas, 15 % — for the thighs and the hip joint. The third place in the complaints list belongs to the spine. The damages happen most often as a result of unsuccessful landings and during complicated springs.
The question how to lower the level of traumatism is absolutely logical. It turns out that the number of traumas is connected directly with the duration of stretching. An extra minute of stretching can lower the risk of damages for more than 10 %! The optimal time of stretching is considered by the scientists to be a 40-minutes procedure. Another factor that actually promotes getting traumas — is the length of classes. Every extra hour beyond the usual duration of training enlarges the risk by almost 30 %!
